During the holidays, the City of Oakland collects and distributes toys for families in need in the Oakland community. Starting last year, AB&I partnered with the Mayor of Oakland, Libby Schaaf, to provide and help bag toys for children up to 12.

Being in the “Toy Shop” felt a little bit like being in Santa’s Workshop. The toy drive collected toys for over 3,000 families. Families fill out a form with each child’s name and a choice of either a gift card, stuffed animal, sports equipment, art supplies, doll/action figure, science kit, legos, blocks, playdough, books, etc. Then, the Santa’s elves get busy filling bags with the “wished for” items. This year, legos, science kits, art supplies and sports equipment were in high demand.

Zeydi Gutierrez said, “It is a delight to see the families picking up the bags of toys knowing that the children will have gifts to open up on Christmas day!”
