Last Sunday, AB&I team member Kristen Cook (pictured on right) joined FEED THE HOOD  organized by the East Oakland Collective to prepare lunches and hygiene kits for the unhoused of East and West Oakland. The event was held at the East Oakland Youth Development Center located at 8200 International Boulevard..

Kristen's morning started at 6:30 a.m. and was nonstop until 12:30 p.m. She helped with breakfast, packed lunches for the volunteers and loaded hygiene kits for delivery. There was a record number of 300 volunteers and 3,000 lunches packed.  Kristen's caravan made deliveries to seven different homeless encampments. Everything from tiny houses maintained by the city of Oakland to make shift tents and RVs.

The East Oakland Collective has been feeding the Unhoused for four years, mostly deep in East Oakland where the need is greatest. Kristen said, "It was both a draining and rewarding experience that I would most certainly do again."
